As a teenager it can be hard to know what you wanna do when you grow up

For me it all started in 2014 where my journey of experiencing new things and broadening my horizons began. I was a lost little boy with very little role models and no sense of purpose or reason to grow. But I knew my mum cared for the elderly so I wanted to help people too and give back. I just wasn’t sure how.

Then in 2014 (till now, 2024) I joined a youth group called What Hope. I was invited by my cousin and when I took the first step through the doors, I felt this different sense of love - something I’d never felt before. I continued to go every week and connect. Over those years, trust was built, opportunities were given and a realness of care was shown towards me. This captured me, helped me grow and gave me courage to step out of my comfort zone. WhatHope has been a strong foundation for me. I have grown and learnt so many things from being involved, and found that my passion and purpose in life is to invest in the next generation of rangatahi in Manurewa, and help them grow.

I encourage YOU, yes YOU reading this, if you or any young person you know is looking for a place to connect and grow, send them this way! I’ll see you soon. Laaaassskooouuu
