Identity & Self-Discovery

We all have an identity being formed through experiences, relationships, culture, social media and the world around us. It’s not necessarily something we do or think about often but one way or another, we are seeking and finding a way to define who we are in any way we can.

Personally, my experiences with relationships had  a massive impact on my self-esteem & confidence such as; losing my mum to suicide, my dad moving to Australia, broken trust in my friendships, missed opportunities because I was told I wasn’t good enough, I was misunderstood and felt unwanted. The feeling of abandonment & rejection made me independent & an “I’ll just do me” attitude. But this was not my calling.

So I set out on a vulnerable journey to discover my true identity. This was worth it because it was my first step of feeling empowered as a NZ born, Manurewa raised, Pacific Islander with a heart that is compassionate, understanding, accepting, selfless, loving, true & full of faith.

When something big takes place in our lives, we either lose confidence and doubt ourselves or stay hopeful and allow these experiences to prompt us in taking a path of self-discovery or re-affirming our identity. I believe true identity is found when we stop being who the world says we are  & start becoming who you we were created to be.
